Vanilla rides into the Wild West—and apparently brought a gun. Perfumer Margaux Le Paih-Guérin imagined vanilla born in the Nevada desert at the end of the 19th century—dark, sensual and untamed. Gunsmoke opens the scene alongside pink pepper, nutmeg and dried fruit before bourbon and an unexpected black olive accord arrive. Then things get darker. Tobacco, deadwood, resins and sticky molasses surround black vanilla, turning one of perfumery's most comforting ingredients into something considerably more dangerous. Vanilla in the desert instead of dessert? Now that's our kind of wicked.
