Fragance Blotters
Fragrance blotters—also known as scent strips, test strips or mouillettes—are an essential tool for evaluating a fragrance in its purest form. Unlike skin, which has its own chemistry and can alter how a scent develops, blotters provide a neutral surface that allows you to experience the fragrance exactly as it was composed. These highly absorbent paper strips make it easier to assess the top, middle, and base notes as they drydown, compare multiple scents side by side, and avoid olfactory fatigue. Our professional-grade blotters are black so you can write on them and are made from 230 GSM thick, uncoated, pH-neutral paper with each blotter measuring 5" x ½. 100 blotters per pack in glassine envelope.
How to Use Fragrance Blotters
- Remove one fragrance blotter from the pack and hold it by the wider end.
- Spray fragrance once or twice onto the tip of the blotter (the skinnier end), keeping the bottle a few inches away.
- Allow the alcohol to evaporate for a few seconds before smelling. Waving will help too.
- Bring the blotter to your nose and inhale gently to experience the top notes first. You can move the blotter underneath both nostrils from side to side or wave it under your nose.
- Revisit the blotter over the next several minutes to several hours to notice how the heart and base notes develop.
- Use a new blotter for each fragrance to compare scents clearly and avoid mixing aromas.
- Label each blotter with the fragrance name if you are testing multiple perfumes at once.
- If you are laying the blotter on a table, bend up the tip so the fragrance doesn't get on your table or workspace.
