My mother’s perfumes. One of the things I did most often when I was a child was to open the drawer and look for samples to spray and mix.
It started as a curiosity since I was a child, and then a passion after graduating during my studies in Italy and France. And now, it’s my work.
I decided to start my brand after I met Cristiano [Canali, perfumer] some Esxence ago, and fell in love with his sensibility and innovative style. We both share the same background - pharmacists who decided to embark on a new path - he as a nose, and I, as an owner of a brand.
Now I can’t wait to let you explore more new launches!
Q: How did you come up with the name of your brand? What’s the meaning behind it?
It comes from the fusion of Art and Chemistry (in French) because of my passion for the art of perfumery and my scientific background.
Q: We’re featuring Shower & Smoke and Coconut Blanket this October in our Subscription boxes. Can you tell us about these scents and their creation?
When I decided to create them I had a precise image in my head and a feeling to evoke. Shower & Smoke is the sexy scent of post-showered skin. I imagined a hot shower that melts all muscle tensions and saturates the bath with steam. Spices add human warmth to the fragrance. Aromatic notes and sparkling citruses take your breath away like the sudden drop in temperature when you come out of the shower. A touch of smoke reminiscent of a freshly lit cigarette helps to add a mystery, attraction and sensuality.
Coconut Blanket was born with the intention of creating a fragrance that was very intimate, familiar, and reassuring - like Linus' blanket. It’s very joyful but also deliciously sweet and sensual thanks to the overdose of sandalwood in the base. It doesn’t remind you of the classic sunscreen like most coconut fragrances but gives a new, cooler interpretation while maintaining the tropical and aquatic nuances.
Q: Do you have a favorite scent in the collection yourself?
Yes, Coconut Blanket. I think it’s so special! Every time I wear it makes me feel happy and protected for the whole day! It seems simple, but it has an original touch that makes it sensual while maintaining its transparency and sophistication.
When I do not know what to wear, it always seems a good choice for me.
Q: What scents trigger your memory most and why?
The pine nut & plum jam tart my paternal grandmother made for me (it happened only once a year, when I went to visit her).
My mom’s fresh, aromatic, and citrus fragrances. When I went to her bathroom to admire all the perfumes, I remember the air was filled with her favorite notes.
The smell of a small doll my aunt gave me that smelled of grapes and plastic.
Q: What’s the best, and worst, thing about owning your own fragrance house?
The best is that my fragrances can travel through the world, and I get to know a lot of different people. Some of them have become my friends!
The worst is that I would love to launch new fragrances often because I yearn to have the world know all that I have in mind, but at the same time, as an independent house, you also have to deal with different suppliers who have delays, or require high minimum order quantities at higher prices as you’re trying to offer quality products.
Q: All three scents in your collection are different from one another, but do you feel there is a common thread in all of them?
Yes, they are so different because I aim to create an eclectic olfactive wardrobe, where I catch the best from each style and to reflect all the all facets of a personality.
In the debut trilogy I would say that they are all united by brightness, but elegance and sophistication at the same time. They are easy to wear and perfect for everyday life while having an original twist. They give the feeling of comfort and well-being but make you feel sensual and appealing.
Q: Do you have any other creative outlets other than perfumery?
Recently I started experimenting with raku pottery to create scented bells & other objects to present my fragrances, and our Artimique photographer is also my teacher.
