  First, imagine a perfect barbershop fragrance -- the clean, soapy lavender imbued with peppery geranium and warm coumarin. Then do it up Amouage style, which means layering it with a symphony of notes that raises the bar to a previously unimaginable level of sophistication and nuance such that it's in a class of its own. Still, this is a departure from Amouage's usual approach, and we're happy to say that the house's experiment with the of-the-moment fougère style is a complete success. Notes include thyme, nutmeg, rose, geranium, patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, amber, vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, and musk. 
• In 1983, the Sultan of Oman established Amouage in the hopes of reviving the Omani tradition of perfumery. The perfumes often feature traditional Middle Eastern perfume materials. In 2006, Amouage brought on creative director Christopher Chong, who oversaw a complete reinvention of the house and helped to expand the house's international appeal.
