The Soft Lawn

This is Version 2. The Soft Lawn is inspired by a 1916 book of the same name by American Claude LeCoq. The book captures the spirit of "adolescent upper-class rebellion in New England," where a sporting game of tennis is the pastime, attendance at high-society dinners is de rigueur, and a love affair with a certain young woman of a lower social class is forbidden fruit. The catch? Both the perfume, and the back story, are inventions of perfume Josh Meyer's mind.

Lovely

"This is one of the first Imaginary Authors scents I smelled, and I'll always remember it. The notes of tennis ball and clay court are 100% recognizable, and at first I couldn't imaginary how on earth someone could make this smell good or wearable. And yet! It so pretty and springlike and fits the backstory perfectly. If you love linden blossom, check out this treatment."

Wimbledon

"Today’s scent : The Soft Lawn, by Imaginary Authors It took me the 15 minute drive to work, to figure out what I was smelling. Dill weed, the peppery bit of it. It isn’t in the list of notes, but it keeps sneaking up on me, and I expect it is part of the “fresh tennis balls” note that is promised. I have never really contemplated fresh tennis balls as a scent, but there is something one relishes about the pop of a fresh can, fluffy pure yellow exterior, and that bounce they have for the first game. At least, until they roll through a puddle or your dog gets to them. But I digress. As a scent, this is definitely unusual. Vetiver makes this green and herby, moss makes it just the tiniest bit dirty, and a smidge of linden flower pushes this just (but only just) over the edge from “I just rolled in the grass at Wimbledon” to “I’m wearing perfume”. Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’m going to go huff a fresh can of tennis balls and then make a batch of my Mum’s dill bread."

Old Lady Stuff

"I really tried to like this as it was my first order but it's just smells like something my grandma would wear....yuck."

My favourite

"I got this as a sample from my fiance the first time I smelled it, and have been utterly obsessed with it ever since. I love the layers it has, the refreshing but still earthy way it has about it. As another reviewer mentioned, you can completely get the grassy, tennis court smell, while still being a gorgeous fragrance. Just got a new bottle today and it was the highlight of my entire day."

Cute!

"I love this. Yes, you can smell the tennis balls but it's not the dominant note. It gives some dimension to the floral parts and it's fun. Guaranteed conversation starter."

Old lady anyone?

"Not a fan of this one, sort of a stale lavender overwhelms it. I think this would be an exciting scent if I were an 65 year old woman living in Boca Raton but outside of that, I don't know who would want to wear this. I really like IA but this is way outside their typical marketing placement"
