Kismet Olfactive

Wedding in Oaxaca Sample

  • This is a 2 ml spray sample. Find the full bottle here .

A bouquet of hopeful, lively flowers, from a real wedding, in actual Oaxaca. As deep as the creamy gardenia, spicy geranium, sonorous osmanthus bouquet is, the beauty in this is the airy space that perfumer Shabnam Tavakol gave each one to unfurl. The florals are vintage-rich, but between each, there are sparkles of water, air, greenery, stone. Rather than a vivacious, flowered arrangement, this subtle, petaled bunch is floating through the air, which somehow makes it more striking. You catch a whiff as it passes, under the Mexican sun, a stone fountain nearby. There’s possibility in the spaces, abundance in simple air. Reach out and catch it. And hold onto your wedding veil, the sillage on this is nothing less than haunting.

Notes include pink pepper, ginger, coconut milk, geranium, gardenia, violet leaves, osmanthus, musk, and sandalwood.

  • Kismet Olfactive is a New York City-based independent fragrance studio founded by bohemian-perfumer Shabnam Tavakol. Born and raised in California, Shabnam—Farsi for “morning dew”—is the daughter of Iranian-immigrant parents who escaped the violent 1979 Revolution in Iran, relocating to the U.S. by way of hard-won efforts and a string of good fortune. Recognizing this fortuitous past, Kismet—from the Persian qismat, meaning “fate,” or, “what is meant to be”—translates the serendipitous moments that make up our lives into wearable scents. Prizing process over profit, the journey over destination, Kismet represents custom small batch formulation using hand-selected, ethically sustainable materials in its dedication to artful olfactive storytelling.
