Violette Fumée, the newest release from Maison Mona di Orio,  shows a side of violet that we don't often see: sultry, smoky, and mysterious. Ms. di Orio composed this personal scent for her partner, Jeroen Oude Sogtoen, the creative director of Maison Mona di Orio, over two years. It starts with  crisp, fresh notes of herbal lavender and sparkling bergamot paired with inky oakmoss. Vetiver and clary sage appear as the scent unfolds, followed by violet and rose. Spicy and savory notes of saffron and bois de gaiac rise to the fore, and the dry down of opoponax, myrrh, and musky cashmeran feels like the softest lavender suede.  Notes include Mediterranean lavender, Calabrian bergamot, Balkan oakmoss, violet flowers and leaves, Turkish rose, Haitian vetiver, clary sage, opoponax, myrrh, and cashmeran.
  • Mona di Orio was born and raised in France, and she graduated from art school with a degree in fine arts and literature before a meeting with Master Perfumer Edmond Roudnitska changed her life. She studied at his side for a number of years before starting her own fragrance line with partner Jeroen Oude Sogtoen in 2005. "I have always been fascinated by fragrances, an inexhaustible source of surprise and emotion," di Orio once said. "As a child, I was so happy to discover new scents through the olfactory mazes of my childhood homes and gardens.” In December 2011, Mona di Orio passed away at the young age of 42 from complications after an operation, leaving behind a legacy of brilliant work, both launched and yet unlaunched. • Violette Fumée is the scent that Mona di Orio created for her partner, Jeroen Oude Sogtoen.  It is, Jeroen says, " a creation that holds echoes of my dreams, emotions, colors, sounds, favorite fabrics, favorite movies, and music ... I can almost feel Mona's caress when I am wearing it in the special moments of my life."
