Début is a joyful lily of the valley scent through and through, filled with a cast of characters that coax out the flower's different qualities throughout the development. The opening dazzles with a bouquet of lily of the valley, playful citrus, and fresh greenery. When the vetiver appears a moment later—rather than lending a masculine feel—it shows that Début is capable of impressive range. Well into the drydown, Début proves that it would be as compelling on a man's skin as on a woman's. Notes include bergamot, lime, ylang-ylang, green leaves, lily of the valley, linden blossom, cyclamen, vetiver, sandalwood, and musk.

DelRae's concept was to create a sophisticated lily of the valley perfume, and she had the idea to contrast the ultra-feminine lily of the valley with another of her favorite materials, the traditionally masculine scent of vetiver. The result is a reinvented lily of the valley with all of the expected charm and youthful qualities but with more complexity and dimension.
