Perfume and wine have a lot in common: They come about due to a transformation of natural materials into their essences, and you can't fully experience either without your nose. To drive home the similarities, the French vineyard Maison Ginestet, set in the picturesque countryside of Bordeaux, created a line of perfumes that echo the three major wines of the region. Botrytis represents the sweet white Sauternes wines. It's a rich, honeyed scent—the perfume equivalent of sweet dessert wine served with a slice of gingerbread. The engraved bottle is packaged in a copper-colored silk drawstring pouch. Notes include plum, quince, apple, honey, jasmine, peony, vanilla, sandalwood, and white musk. Read about Botrytis in Alyssa Harad's memoir Coming to My Senses: A Story of Perfume, Pleasure, and an Unlikely Bride.
Botrytis was created for Ginestet by Gilles Toledano of the Florescence Perfume Company in Grasse.
Botrytis is inspired by the richness of sweet wine grapes.
