The full name is Fils de Dieu du Riz et Des Agrumes (Son of God, rice, and citrus), and the perfumer says he took divine inspiration from the warmth of the Philippines. The list of notes reads like a foodie's dream, but this isn't a gourmand; instead, imagine all of the raw ingredients laid out in a sunny market in southeast Asia, mingling with fresh-squeezed oranges and warm air. Despite the name, don't expect a church service—but do expect your soul to be moved. Notes include ginger, coriander leaves, lime, shiso, coconut rice, cardamom, jasmine, cinnamon, May rose, tonka bean, vetiver, musk, amber, leather, castoreum.
État Libre d'Orange, or Orange Free State, was created by Etienne de Swardt to be a provocative, intelligent line, each perfume with a point of view. In the Free Orange State, there are no constraints and nothing is off limits. As the company declares in its manifesto, "Perfume is dead. Long live perfume!" Fils de Dieu was created for État Libre d'Orange by perfumer Ralf Schwieger.
