Amouage

Memoir Man

    • The initial top accord of Memoir Man rises up with a dirty-fresh dichotomy that nearly defies description. Wormwood does a lot of work here with its muddy, earthen herbaceousness, pairing with the fresh, cool green of basil and mint and the cold spiciness of absinthe. Frankincense takes center stage in the heart, coiling around rose and lavender absolute for another variation of a dirty-fresh accord in the guise of a deeply smoked, clean floral. This beautifully confusing back and forth gives way to one of the most lushly dense base blends you can get your nose on: sweet, earthy, woody, musky, creamy, and leathery, all at the very same time. Notes include basil, mint, wormwood, absinthe, lavender absolute, incense, rose, sandalwood, guaiacwood, vetiver, oakmoss, musk, amber, vanilla, tobacco, and leather.
    • In 1983, the Sultan of Oman established Amouage in the hopes of reviving the Omani tradition of perfumery. The perfumes often feature traditional Middle Eastern perfume materials. In 2006, Amouage brought on creative director Christopher Chong, who oversaw a complete reinvention of the house and helped to expand the house's international appeal.
