We love perfumes that know how to dance -- notes drifting in, out, and back again; spinning, pirouetting. In this way, Journey Man is not so much composed as it is choreographed. At first, a synchronicity of notes come to the foreground, bringing a bitter orange into shadowy view. Just when we think we’re about to get a very clear picture of this accord, a juicy juniper comes marching in, hand-in-hand with a smoky incense. Quickly, we realize even this is veiled by sweetly honeyed tobacco leaves, bound and bunched up. None of this chorus line completely fades to the background. Mesmerisingly complex. Notes include sichuan pepper, bergamot, cardamom, neroli bigarade, juniper berries, incense, geraniol, tobacco leaves, ambrox, cypriol, and tonka bean.
In 1983, the Sultan of Oman established Amouage in the hopes of reviving the Omani tradition of perfumery. The perfumes often feature traditional Middle Eastern perfume materials. In 2006, Amouage brought on creative director Christopher Chong, who oversaw a complete reinvention of the house and helped to expand the house's international appeal.
