Oud, or agarwood, is a dark aromatic resin with a distinctive, powerful scent popular in the Middle East. In Aoud Velvet, we find a meeting between oud and tropical island flowers, placing it more on the beaches of Thailand than in the arid deserts of the Arabian Peninsula. In other words, it's an ideal entry point for novices into the world of oud. The first spray carries a slight bitterness with hints of camphor, which quickly cede to the velvety white petals of ylang-ylang, orange blossom, and tiare. Oud lends these flowers spicy depth while the scent of the tropics softens the normally hard-edged oud into something lush and pretty. Start with one spray (a little goes a long way). Notes include ylang-ylang, orange blossom, tiare flower, oud, Mysore sandalwood, vanilla, and tonka bean.
